This week on our blog we’re travelling to Northeastern Brazil to explore the wondrous beauty that is Lençois National Park. Join us as we delve into the abundant landscapes of one of Brazil’s most incredible places.

Spanning over 380,000 acres in the state of Maranhão, Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses boasts vast coastal dune fields for miles, and lies on the banks of the Preguiça River.

This incredible destination attracts ecotourists and nature enthusiasts alike, with up to 60,000 visitors a year.

A Nature Lover'S Paradise

‘Lençois’ literally translating to ‘linen’ or ‘sheets’, perfectly describes the pattern in which the dunes appear. Crystal clear lagoons snake between the high sand hills, creating an unrivalled view for visitors.

Beneath the surface of these naturally formed pools lies an ecosystem rich and diverse. Turtles glide through the pristine waters, also inhabited by a multitude of species of fish and insects.

Beyond the dunes and closer to the Preguiça River, one can find an equally rich environment of a different sort. Birds, reptiles and a wealth of plant species contribute to the park’s diverse ecosystem, gracefully adapting with changing seasons.

Gems Of Lençois

Considered the jewels in the hypothetical crown of the park, Lagoa Bonita and Lagoa Azul capture the hearts of all those who visit.

Emanating sheer beauty and elegance, Lagoa Bonita is slightly more difficult to get to than others, though definitely worth the trip. Impressively high dunes surround the lagoon, providing the perfect backdrop to an incredible sunset.

Equally as stunning, yet more accessible is the wondrous Lagoa Azul. Literally translated to ‘Blue Lake’, this lagoon entices visitors to swim, where turquoise and blue tones meet.
